A Note from The Homeowners
We moved into 14 Elgar Road from Zone 1 London almost 3 years ago. We were looking for a beautiful space close to town backed by nature. That is 14 Elgar Road. Backing directly onto the river, with a deck that has brought countless coffee mornings and very sunny afternoons, the house has offered us a blend of scenery and social. We have felt incredibly lucky every day to wake up in such a beautiful setting within a town centre. Our favourite thing to do as a family is to feed the swans, geese and ducks, and to watch the Red Kites above. Our little boy can spend hours doing so. The only reason were moving is that weve recently welcomed another child and need more space, otherwise we would have stayed for many more years.
Alexs Best Bits
From the moment you step inside, you get that homely feeling. Its got that open, social flow that just works.
A few thoughtful upgrades bring together the charm of the period exterior with a smart, up-to-date interior. The upgraded UPVC sash-style windows improve energy efficiency while staying in keeping with the charming Victorian design, and theres a cool stable door at the rear - a lovely way to let the outside in, while keeping the little ones and pets from escaping.
The kitchen has been refitted in recent years and offers a clean, modern finish thats ready to enjoy. The current owners have made great use of the bathroom space through a high quality refit, with beautiful tiles and a relaxing Japanese soaking tub, perfect for unwinding after a long day.
Step outside and the garden is where the lifestyle really comes into its own. Its split into three distinct levels. At the top, youll find a perfect spot to relax beneath the timber pagoda. This flows onto the well-kept lawn, offering a peaceful place for a spot of sunbathing. Then, through a picket fence, you reach the showstopper - good quality composite-decked jetty that stands proudly above the water. Its one of the best along this stretch of river. Thanks to its elevation, it stays well clear of rising water levels, offering year-round usability. With mooring rights and a gate already installed, all you need is a ladder and youre set to launch your kayak or canoe straight from your garden. Pure tranquillity, with the potential for proper weekend adventures.
Upstairs, theres a spacious main bedroom located at the front, and a generous single at the rear, offering a lovely green outlook. On the second floor, the loft makes a brilliant home office. The river view from the dormer window makes for more enjoyable work phone calls, and theres also a couple of handy built-in cupboards up there too.
Youre just a mile from Reading Station and can walk into town along the River Kennet. Theres a drive-through Costa just around the corner, ideal for a lazy Sunday coffee run, a couple of local shops on your doorstep, and super easy access to the M4.
Theres nothing major to do here, just unpack and enjoy. If youve been searching for that rare balance between town life and tranquillity, this property delivers.
We cant wait to show you around.
